SMR 3, Rocky Mountain National Park

Wednesday, July 4

Well, we're close to the Rocky Mountain National Park, so obviously we must take a ride on the highest paved road in any National Park in the United States – Trail Ridge Road. Trail Ridge Road runs from Grand Lake through (or probably more properly OVER) the Park, peaking out at 12,183 feet and ending at Estes Park. We took several hikes at various points in the day, ending up at lunch in Estes Park.

This is probably my 10th or 15th ride through this park, and it never loses its' awe. The scenery is breathtaking (somewhat literally at this high altitude), with each turn and overlook providing an even more spectacular view than the last.

Even though it is July 4, there are no firework displays anywhere in the area because of the extremely high fire danger.

After having had a great lunch in Estes Park, we didn't feel that dinner was necessary. We all came back to the cabin and crashed after another memorable day.
