Late June

The Lantz's

Thurs., June 20

This afternoon we all got on Wendell's boat and headed to the Cape.  It was a beautiful day, with a nice Northerly wind which made for a smooth ride in the ocean out to the Cape.

Joe and Dave go to the Cape

June 25 - 27

Tuesday we left around noon in 10-15 knot Southwest winds for a pleasant sail out to the Cape.  This is the first time in quite a while that Joe and I have been out on Eureka, and we need to get caught up on some serious sailing.

Wednesday

After a quiet morning lounging around the boat, we take Eureka out for a little exercise for a couple of hours.  The winds have picked up to 15-20 knots, mostly around 17 knots and it makes for a vigorous sail.

Thursday

Last night the winds never died down.  In fact this morning they are a bit higher.

Around 10:30, we pull the anchor, roll out the sails and start a "robust" (Joe's description) sail back to Beaufort.

The winds have been blowing steadily out of the Southwest for several days, and the waves have now built up, along with the wind.  Most of the way back, the wind is blowing 20-25 knots.  We have reefed both the main and Genoa.

The sail is among the best we've had in a long time, with the bow plowing into the waves and water spraying over the bow.
