High Tides and Lots of Rain

Monday, September 28

In the past 5 days, we've had over 12 inches of rain.  The ground just can't absorb any more water, so it's puddling in places in our yard we've never seen before.  We've had extreme rain events associated with hurricanes, but hurricanes move out quickly.  This just keeps pumping moisture in from the ocean.

And this has occurred during a period of  "Supermoon" extreme high tides, which occurs once about every 18 years.  Front Street has been flooded at every high tide for the past several days.

We have a neighbor whose backyard is often under water after significant rain events.  This time, it is flooding neighbors garages and nearly getting into their houses.

Our neighbor Jean called the Beaufort Fire Department yesterday afternoon and asked if they could come over and try to pump some of the water out.  It turned into a neighborhood event.

Kudo's to the Fire Department

However, it the lowering of the lake didn't last long.  Jean rented a big pump and pumped it out once.  But it's deeper than ever now.

Tuesday, October 6

This is our 13th day in a row with rain.  We did have two days during that time when we saw the sun, but it still rained.

So far, we've had over 16 inches of rain in the 13 days.  And we're not getting the worst of it.  Scenes from South Carolina are terrible.

This is bad enough.  It's is "supposed" to be moving out and tomorrow is forecast for no rain.  We'll see.

I would hate to buy this truck.  That's salt water and it "will" cause rust
